This forum is a place of support and mature interaction. We're operating on the assumption that our writers are a nice bunch of mature people. So let’s see if we can get along with a minimum of rules.
Be Kind
This forum is meant to be a friendly, uplifting place. We have to deal with enough unpleasantness in the outside world, no need to drag that attitude into the forum. We write because it’s something that gives us joy, and nobody has the right to spoil that fun.
That doesn’t mean that we can’t have disagreements. But remember your manners. As someone once said, „manners reflect on the character of the owner, not the receiver.“ Be polite, be matter of fact, don’t resort to name calling or bitching. Rude behavior won’t be tolerated. If you have problems with another member, deal with it via PM, and if that doesn’t lead to a resolution, contact a moderator.
Language
We’re pretty relaxed when it comes to the occasional swear word (even the f-word isn’t banned, as long as it doesn’t pepper every sentence of your speech). However, some members are Christians and flinch if you use the name of their god to express your frustration, and rule one (above) tells you to be kind, so - no Jesus Effing anything, or similar creative curses, please. If you take this relaxed attitude as a permission to curse like a sailor, though, you’ll be kicked out faster than you can say what the fuck.
Obviously, this doesn’t apply to shared excerpts, if your character is one disrespectful motherfucker.
Obviously the second, that means you need to be over eighteen to join. By joining, you declare to be at least eighteen years old, and if you aren’t, I won’t come to save your butt when your mom finds a swear word in your browser window. And since I have no way to verify your age except by believing your claim, I’m also not responsible for any damage your underage soul may suffer if it happens across a rude word here. Parents, you are responsible for your kids’ internet use, not I. Parental control software exists, you know?
Copyright and First Publication Rights
You retain the copyright to your own work when you post it here; if you post someone else’s work, put it in a quotation box and provide the complete source. Don’t quote excessively (that’s considered spam).
Since our forum is private and intended for the purposes of encouraging feedback and community support, most editors and literary agents will consider your work unpublished. But if you want to be on the absolutely safe side, you may want to take down your excerpts once you’ve received feedback so they don’t appear online.
This also means that you’re not allowed to cross-post any content of this forum anywhere else, especially not excerpts by other posters - that is not only a breach of the privacy of this forum, but also a violation of copyright.
Invitation Only
Only the Admin has the right to invite people, but you may suggest new candidates if you know someone who would make a great addition to our forum.
No Double Posting
You can edit your post if you have something to add, to clarify, or correct a spelling mistake. Please don’t spam the threads with rows and rows of your posts. We’ll let an occasional double post slip, especially when there is at least one day between the posts, but otherwise, we’ll remind you not to do it again if we catch you. Don’t make us remind you more than once.
The edit function isn’t meant to erase your posts if you are pissed off or decide to leave. It makes it impossible to make sense of the conversation, and is incredibly rude (see rule number one). So please be an adult and refrain from doing this. If you find yourself regularly regretting what you have posted, please take the time to think about what you have written before you hit the 'Post' button.
No Advertisements
This pertains to all posts except in dedicated recommendation threads, including quoted articles, forum signatures, or profiles. This includes free products, recruitments, publishing opportunities, or writing services.
No multiple accounts
Multiple accounts may be granted for mods, but as a normal forum member, you don’t need more than one account, and sock-puppeting will lead to a permanent ban.
No illegal or distasteful content
That includes the content of your posts in text or image, screen names, avatars, signatures, profiles, and PMs, and really, anywhere on the forum, as well as links leading to sites containing illegal content. While the definition of distasteful may vary, for most people it includes nudity and excessive violence or gore.
Breaking of any of these rules is a breach of your agreement. We reserve the right to ban temporarily or permanently any user at any time for any reason. Penalties will vary based on the severity of the situation.
These rules can be changed, deleted, or added to at any time, as the need arises. You will be notified about any changes in the Admin Announcement thread.
