Okay, so this was a concept one of my buddies and I back in the day. We used to send NaNoMails containing a list of victories each day, however big or small, to spur one another on to greatness. And I thought that might be a good thread to have here! This is all you gotta do: fill out the form below! Each day you write, share a victory with the "class". Feel free to comment on one another's victories; or, if no one has posted since you, then spam the read! Word Count of the Day: Overview of the Day (a snapshot of what your cast was up to) Song of the Day (any piece of music that inspired today's scene(s).) Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!): Soooo, since this is the first thread-post, I'll start it off! Word Count of the Day: 2,731 Overview of the Day: Cistine and Thorne stumbled across some enemies, and Thorne absolutely savaged his way through them. So Cistine had to come to grips with how she feels about her new friends all being very capable of killing, lol. Song of the Day: Awakening - Halo 4 OST.Excerpt of the Day:
Thorne’s nose wrinkled as she blotted his brow. “Where did you find a cloth?” “It’s my sock,” Cistine said. “God almighty!” Thorne knocked her arm aside, coughing. “No wonder it reeks.” “Excuse you!” Cistine snapped in mock-offense. “Women do not reek. We give off a delightful, feminine odor.” “Then I regret to inform you that, judging by the stench of your sock, you have a man’s feet.” Cistine slapped the wet sock against his knee. “Fine! I was finished, anyway.” All right, gang! Tally-ho!

That excerpt...you had me in fits XD We need more of this.
Also, HALO <3
Word Count of the Day: 288 (plus a bit, if I'm writing any more) Overview of the Day (a snapshot of what your cast was up to) Oh, you know, Val and Shadow having a good old conversation about morals and responsibilities of war. On a train. Song of the Day (any piece of music that inspired today's scene(s).) none really, but I did listen to Illusions by Thomas Bergersen. Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!): (for a very different mood...)
“Is that how you justify things?” Valatrak searched her face, expecting her to deny it, but she only gave him a sad smile.
“I’m an infantry officer. It’s how I have to. All those people who’ve been put under my command, everyone I’ve been responsible for…you can’t save them all. You know better. In the end, there’s only so much you can do. Accept it and move on.”

Haha...this sounds super cool! I haven't written much, but... Word Count of the Day: 200-ish Overview of the Day ( a snapshot of what your cast was up to) Mattathias and Jendrome are headed to Selleroak to meet with the Bronze Mages there Song of the Day (any piece of music that inspired today's scene(s).) None, really... Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!): I thing you'll all enjoy this one... " “Why can’t we teleport?” Jendrome groaned, smirking at her brother. Mattathias shrugged. “Because we’re not mages? And thank goodness for that, since two mages in the group are enough to drive anyone bonkers.” “That’s true. It’s good to be able to get away from all of them and just be able to hit things with a hammer or morning star. Magecraft is good and all, but sometimes our work calls for a more…physical…touch.” Mattathias chuckled, elbowing his sister in the stomach. “Doesn’t everything involving us end up physical?” Jendrome froze, slowly turning to glare at her older brother. “Um…you know how bad that sounds, right? If someone didn’t know the context-” “I know, just…never mind. There’s no saving that one.” "

I love this idea!
Word Count of the Day: 1163 Overview of the Day (a snapshot of what your cast was up to): Crystal wrote a letter to Leo explaining why she couldn't attend their father's funeral again and then she returned to Kincaron and visited her mother's grave for the first time in years. Song of the Day (any piece of music that inspired today's scene(s).): Didn't really inspire either of the scenes I worked on today but I've been obsessed with Sign of the Times by Harry Styles (I did not know he was former One Direction singer when I first heard the song, so don't judge. My husband already laughed at me for it for like ten minutes, lol. Seriously though it's a really perfect heart wrenching song I love to write to). Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!):
Dear Leo
I’m so sorry for the loss of your father. I won’t pretend that the loss will be easier to handle with time. You will miss him every day and nothing I say will be able to help you with that. I wish I could say that it gets easier with time, but it won’t. It will always hurt, but the pain won’t always be as sharp as it is now. At least that’s how it was for me, the first time I lost him.
I wish I could change what happened. I wish I could have taken his place. It should have been me. Then you and Gina would still have your father. I would never want anyone to have to grow up without their parents. At least you and Gina can take comfort in each other. I hope this makes things easier for you.
I’m sorry I’m not there with you now. I couldn’t attend his funeral again. I hope you understand, but if you don’t that’s ok. Know that if you ever need anything I will be here for you. I hope you can forgive me for what I’ve done and that we can get to know each other better in the future.
If you decided that you still want to apply to the Academy, let me know. I can help. You showed real strength and courage the other day. You would make a good solider, it’s in your blood after all.
All the best,
Crystal

Word Count of the Day: 1011 Overview of the Day (a snapshot of what your cast was up to) Val and Shadow getting ambushed on the train. Well...more Shadow. Val slept through it. Song of the Day (any piece of music that inspired today's scene(s).) N/A Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!):
I have you now.
Valatrak’s eyes snapped open, but he wasn’t on the train. Instead, he was standing amidst a foggy field, facing a black-haired demon with solid black eyes.
“What is this?” he growled.
“You didn’t think it would be that easy, did you?” Satan smiled. It might have been charming if it weren’t for his eyes. “We’re linked now, you and me. I share your blood.”
“My blood makes you mortal.” Valatrak willed himself to wake up, but nothing happened.
“Is that what they would have you believe?” Satan stepped towards him. “Lies, Tyson. So many lies. Zeltarc’s precious plan never would have worked.” He pressed his forehead against the half-demon’s. “And guess what?”
Valatrak felt a chill going through him. “What?”
“I know where you are.”

Word Count of the Day: 511 (I am seriously having a hard time getting this scene to go anywhere.) Overview of the Day (a snapshot of what your cast was up to): Lady Ariana is helping Princess Catharina prepare for Prince Azorius's final ceremony (basically a funeral). Song of the Day (any piece of music that inspired today's scene(s): I don't really have one, so I searched YouTube and found one. "One Day Too Late" by Skillet Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!): Not for the first time, though, Princess Catharina wondered what it must be like to go through the day without sitting forever and waiting for a lady-in-waiting to brush and style her hair. It must be a glorious feeling. Just the thought of it brought a smile to Princess Catharina’s face. She could imagine it, the wind blowing back her long blonde hair and running its fingers through. What a feeling that must be! “Ah, Princess Catharina! All finished! You look beautiful. Do you like it?” Lady Ariana’s voice slashed through Princess Catharina’s daydream with all the grace of a greasy butter knife. That’s right, Princess Catharina was reminded. She wasn’t free, like in her daydream. No, she was as tightly caged as her hair in the style that Lady Ariana had just crafted. “Yes, it’s beautiful. Just like always, Lady Ariana,” Princess Catharina replied, taking only a very brief glance in the mirror at her desk. It was the blonde crown style, the one that her mother always wore. Now more than ever, Princess Catharina felt that it was not her reflection that stared back at her from the mirror. All she could see in the small, oval-shaped glass was her mother.

Word Count of the Day: 1463
Overview of the Day (a snapshot of what your cast was up to): Chris Virdon is ambushed by a former classmate. He doesn't really want to reconnect, but somehow, she knows of his secret meetings with professor Hasslein...
Song of the Day (any piece of music that inspired today's scene(s).) - none; music doesn't really play a part in my writing, I'm afraid
Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!):
After a dozen steps, Gina caught up with him, their fight forgotten. „So, what are you two doing in the lab?“
„He’s giving me physics lessons.“
Gina made a face. „That doesn’t sound very exciting.“
„It’s pretty advanced stuff,“ though it would probably be hopeless to try to explain it to her. So he just said, „I need to know about it, because I’m going to be in command of the ship they’re building to find my dad.“
That did impress her. „Wow. You’ll be like Cpt. Harris!“ She was silent for a moment. „But they won’t let anyone our age fly a ship.“
„They have to build it first,“ Chris said. „When she’s ready, I’ll be, too.“ That’s what Hasslein had told him. He liked it - it was as if he and the ship were comrades, growing up together for the same purpose.

This is actually for yesterday, I just forgot to post it. I'm not sure if I'll get anything done tonight as I usually take Fridays off. I also finished this story last night so I need to do some planning over the next few days before I jump into writing Cleansing Rain.
Word Count of the Day:2122 Overview of the Day (a snapshot of what your cast was up to): Crystal visits the family of the man that died in her father's place during the war to tell them what really happened and tries to make up for the what her father has put them through. Song of the Day (any piece of music that inspired today's scene(s).): Battle by Colbie Caillat Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!):
“Please, tell me how my son died,” said Eli’s father. The twins had returned, so now the whole family was watching her.
She pulled a tablet from her bag, cued up the video and then it down on the table for them to watch. Crystal didn’t look at the screen. She had seen the video more time than anyone on the planet. It replayed in her mind every time she closed her eyes.
“Wait a minute, I remember this,” Mrs. Patterson said. “This is the execution of the Wolfs. This event was the trigger that ended the war.”
“Didn’t you say your name was Wolf? Are you related to them?” one of the twins asked while pointed at the screen. Now that they were both here, Crystal wouldn’t tell them apart. It didn’t matter, she wouldn’t be here much longer.
“Yes, that’s my mother and up until a couple of weeks ago I believed that was my father.”
“What does this have to do with Eli?” Mrs. Patterson asked.
“That is Ensign Elias Patterson.”
“How is that possible?” the other twin asked.
“It was recently discovered that Jedidiah Wolf has been living under an alias since the end of the war. His cover was blown on a mission and rather than have to abort the mission all together Ensign Patterson volunteered to take his place. None of this was ever documented, so when that happened,” Crystal motioned towards the tablet, “the Kincaron military naturally assumed it was Lieutenant Wolf.”
“I want to talk to him. I want to hear this for myself,” Mrs. Patterson said.
“I’m sorry, but he was killed last week. I was able to record his statement prior to his death and a copy of the recording is on the tablet when you’re ready to watch it. I’ve spoken to several officials at LAWON Headquarters and they are in the process of updating Eli’s file to reflect what actually happened. His dishonorable discharge will be removed and his record will reflect that he died in action. You will retroactively receive all the benefits you should have as his surviving family. I’ve also had all the money I received in my father’s name transferred to your account. Eli’s ashes are at the National Warm Memorial Park. They are waiting for your call. You can have him removed and placed somewhere closer to you if you like or you can leave him there and they will have a new plaque up tomorrow. It’s a really beautiful spot overlooking the ocean. He’s right next to my mother.” The words spilled out of Crystal’s mouth.
The Patterson family looked at Crystal in shock. She knew it was a lot of information to throw at them. It would probably take them days to process it. “Anyway, all the information you need is on the tablet. If anyone gives you a hard time, tell them to contact me. I’ll leave you alone now. Again, I’m sorry for everything my family has put you through.” Crystal turned and left the kitchen. She had reached the front door when she heard a voice behind her.

All right, I meant to do this last night as well, but actually submitted a backstory thing instead. Here's mine for yesterday: Word Count of the Day:11,150 (or right around there) Overview of the Day (a snapshot of what your cast was up to): Em met with an ancient vampire to discuss magic, and they worked through an alliance together while he taught her some basics. Song of the Day (any piece of music that inspired today's scene(s).): I didn't listen to any music to inspire any scenes Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!): This takes place as Em is talking to the FBI team that monitors her 24/7. She's discussing the crazy-powerful vampire she just visited. Em's speaking first. “I can imagine. He’s not fond of agents and being monitored, so I doubt you’ll be getting in there any time soon. I’d prepare for the cameras and bugs and stuff to be on the fritz when he visits, too.” “Damn, he’s going to visit?” “Yeah. Seems like it. Think of him as a nicer Corey maybe? More powerful, but he’s so laid back that you need to be an evil bastard for him to get moving.” “That…actually puts me a little at ease. You’re sure you’re not just saying that?” “Nope. Not at all. I actually met him a few times before I knew who he was. I thought he was just a surfer until he didn’t die after getting his neck broken.” The team laughed. “Okay, there has to be a story there.”

I had set myself a daily wordcount of at least 1000 words to get back into the writing habit (which is quite different from the revision habit, hence the low wc goal).
Word Count of the Day: 1254
Overview of the Day (a snapshot of what your cast was up to): The remaining trio is forced to hide by day (because they'd attract a mob if people would see Virdon - a human - riding a horse), and the forced break is driving Virdon absolutely crazy.
Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!):
It was his own world, his own world! Everything after his rescue had been a frantic race, first away from Urko, now after him, and he hadn’t ever had a quiet moment to truly grasp the reality of what he had found down there. But now it snaked around him, squeezing the breath from his throat.
Sal...
She was dead. She was... she was gone, maybe for centuries, maybe even longer. Everything had crumbled away, vanished from the face of the Earth he’d known. Even these ruins they were hiding in now had been some temple for apes, not humans. Sally’s body had turned to dust, her smile, the sparkle in her eyes, the scent of her skin...
Dust in his throat and in his eyes, making them water.
There was a baby daughter he had never seen. She had been born, grown up, died, like a flame lighting up in the darkness and winking out again, in the blink of an eye. Had she found love? Had she found purpose?
My son and now he had to put the cup away and press the heels of his hands against his eyes to rub the wetness away. I wanted to come back to you, Chris, so much... I didn’t know, I couldn’t know, how could I’ve known...

Ughhhh Athaia. That excerpt still slays me. ;__; I keep hoping Al will make it home to his time, somehow, to see Sal again. </3 Word Count of the Day: 3,706 Overview of the Day: The group gets together for a dinner cooked by our kitchen-challenged heroine. Hijinx ensue. Also bonding. Song of the Day: Jackseyes Tale - King Arthur: Legend of the Sword OST.Excerpt of the Day: Cistine took a deep breath. “I appreciate that all of you lied to me about the meal, to spare my dignity,” she said. “But I don’t ever, ever, want to be the brunt of your jokes that way again. If you can’t think of a better way to jab back at the archers, then ask me for help. I’m sure I’ve read enough books that I can offer a few ideas.” “Fair enough,” Tatiana said. “And if I make rancid food,” Cistine said, “then for God’s sake, be honest with me about it. I can’t improve when I don’t know I’m failing.” The cabal exchanged heavy glances, filling the air with doubt-dusted silence. “Cistine,” Ariadne said at last, “your food tasted like licking a bloated corpse.” “It’s true,” Quill admitted. “I’ve eaten from pig troughs that tasted better.” “The next time you want to pamper us, try infesting our beds with lice,” Tatiana added. “I think we’d suffer a little less.” Cistine perched her hands on her hips. “Is this your way of apologizing?” They all watched her, quiet and curious, and Cistine knew what they were wondering—knew what that silent question was, lurking in their eyes. “Apology accepted,” she said. Quill and Tatiana loosened up with relief. Ashe smiled, pushing out the chair beside her. “Care to join us for some cards?” “Later,” Cistine said. “I was just on my way to make us a dessert.”

Word Count of the Day: 879 (jumped from 180 when I decided to keep at the scene lol) Overview of the Day (a snapshot of what your cast was up to) Val and Shadow arriving at Edinburgh, Val wakes up at headquarters. Shenanigans about to ensue. Song of the Day (any piece of music that inspired today's scene(s).) N/A Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!):
Shapeshifters were among the mass of people when the train pulled to a stop. Valatrak could see them, looking more alert than the humans and sporting hats or hoodies to cover their slightly pointed ears, a trait more closely linked with demons. Even then, he found it hard to believe that they evolved from half-demons. Over the thousands of years that half-demons had been in the human world, they’d bred out almost every trace of demon DNA. The part that was left evolved into the shapeshifters’ powers.
“You see anyone suspicious?” he said, dropping his voice.
“Valatrak, rule one of covert missions. The most suspicious person in the room is the one who looks the least suspicious.” Shadow slung the duffle bag over her uninjured shoulder and allowed him to use her as a crutch. She glanced around. “Unless they’re shit at hiding it.”
Valatrak snorted. “I assume the implication there is that they are shit at hiding themselves?”
“Plenty of people have sort-of-pointy ears. We could even pass off as human if nobody saw our eyes. They’re trying too hard,” Shadow muttered, shaking her head. “Amateurs.”
“Come now, let’s not get cocky.” Valatrak grinned.
“If anyone should be getting cocky about now, it’s you.”
“I’m not the one showing off my amazing observation skills.”
“That’s because you’re not looking,” Shadow said. She yanked him by the collar, narrowly avoiding a collision with a small child. “Reckless idiot. Honestly, I’m surprised you managed to look after Scarton so well.”
Valatrak shrugged. “Maybe I’m just that good.”
“Oh, who’s getting cocky now, huh?” Shadow gave him a light shove.
“Damn it.” Valatrak sighed. “Fine, you win.”
“Giving up already?” It was Shadow’s turn to grin. “I thought you were more fun than this…” Her voice trailed off as she straightened.

Word Count of the Day: 956 Overview of the Day (a snapshot of what your cast was up to): The final ceremony is over. Brief overview (by way of Princess Catharina's memories) of the feast that was held to honor the life of Prince Azorius. Now, Princess Catharina is preparing for the naming of the heir. Song of the Day (any piece of music that inspired today's scene(s): Hmm...this time, I really don't think I have any. Excerpt of the Day (can be as short as one line or as long as a few!):
Last night’s feast had been agonizing and, by the end, Princess Catharina had been more than ready to retire to her chambers and never come out again. The atmosphere in the Grand Hall had been bright and overly cheery, as if in attempts to mask the gravity of the true reason for the feast. Like with all feasts, the King and Queen were the perfect examples of hospitality as they did everything possible to make their guests feel welcome. The average guest would have never even realized how hurt their hosts were feeling. Princess Catharina, though, was no average guest. She knew her parents and she never missed the signs of their inner pain. The slight sniffle that her father tried to pass off as dust and her mother wiping her eyes with a claim that a non-existent object had gotten into them, Princess Catharina had seen through the excuses with ease.
The King and Queen were skilled at pushing through their pain and struggles; Princess Catharina, on the other hand, was not. The table manners that Lady Ariana had drilled into her head time and time again all quickly became non-existent. She had felt horrible, miserably depressed, so what was the point of trying to pretend otherwise? Slouching (not much as the corset under her dress prevented such bad posture) and eating with her elbows resting on the table. Many of the guests had avoided Princess Catharina at the feast and she could easily guess the reason why. The unhappy expression that had inevitably adorned her face all night was not the most welcoming.

Wordcount: 885 words (but I was also chatting with Chief... can I add those words to my wordcount? No?)
Overview: Urko gets to interrogate the human. He enjoys it, the human... not so much.
Excerpt:
Urko leaned against the desk. „Who helped you to evade my men?“
Burke took a deep breath. „Nobody helped us.“
Urko smiled again, and Burke tensed, expecting the first blow. „I want the names of the apes that befriended you,“ Urko said mildly, „the ones that gave you food, the ones that hid you from my patrols, and I want to know when and where you met them.“
„I... I’m sorry,“ Burke improvised. „I have this ringing noise in my ears... must’ve come from the noise in my cell - all those drums and gongs and stuff. I can’t hear you... couldn’t hear you when you told me to strip, either.“ It wasn’t the most elegant way of delaying his answers, but if he made communication too much of a hassle, perhaps Urko would give up and send for Vanda again...
„Dako, what does a human need to answer a question?“ Urko asked one of the guards.
The chimp startled; apparently he hadn’t expected to become part of the game. But he quickly recovered, or remembered the correct answer. „Just its tongue, sir.“
„Ah. Not its nose, or its eyes?“
Burke didn’t like where this was going.
„No, sir.“
„Then I guess we’ll focus this human’s attention a bit. Take out its left eye.“
