Instead of spamming the book recs thread with random websites I stumbled across and found cool and just had to tell you about (I'm bad like that - whenever I find something shiny I'll shove it in everybody's face), I created a new one so that you can avoid appreciate them in one place. And if you find something shiny a gem, please share it here, too. This article reads "Should you write that book?" Topics: Question: Should I write that book? Answer: No. Excuse: Because I might not finish it. Verdict: Bullshit. Question: Should I write that book? Answer: No. Excuse: Because I don’t know how to plot. Verdict: Bullshit. This is a very cool article, check it out! blog.bookbaby.com/2017/06/story-needs-a-good-straight-man/You know, it irritates me to no end to read "dialog" instead of "dialogue." I always pronounce it in my head as "dia lock" instead of the soft sound that needs to be there. Who introduced that spelling??? Edited to say that "straight man" doesn't refer to sexual orientation here...

So, y'all should try a website called "iwritelike"...basically, you paste in a few paragraphs of your own writing, and it tells you who your writing is similar to...and almost every time (barring a couple of times), I end up getting Stephen King...and the only book I've read of his is "On Writing"... iwl.me/

hey, that's a cool website! I got Agatha Christie...which is strange because I can't do murder mysteries, lol. Maybe I'll try pasting in a different excerpt.
Edit: 2nd run was a bit short, so I got someone different, but 3rd time was Agatha Christie again. Huh.

Haha-nice! Maybe it's not so much the mysteries part, but the murder part? I know a lot of people tend to die in your stuff... Yeah, I didn't get the same one every time either...my 1st was Stephen King, then Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), then JK Rowling a couple of times, and my last 2 or 3 have all been Stephen King. I definitely don't write as much horror as he does... (Although he DID write Shawshank Redemption, and I really want to see that movie...)

Read this and then read the comment by Cowan in the comments section - and then let me know what you think.

So, I know at least hollyash (and maybe some others of us) were considering using Pronoun/Createspace/IngramSpark to publish...here are the links for all of those! (I didn't use IngramSpark, cause it was too confusing for me...but y'all can totally use it! Pronoun: pronoun.com/Createspace: www.createspace.com/IngramSpark: www.ingramspark.com/Hope this helps somebody! Also, I know Pronoun is free, and Createspace can be free if you use all the free steps...not sure about IngramSpark, though...

I found this great tumblr awhile back that has all sorts of writing references like how to write an accurate portrayal of florist shops to helpful tips for action scenes. It's accurately named ReferenceForWriters
